I don’t know about you guys but sometimes I feel this world is full of negativity, stress and some not so good people. There’s times you feel like you just want to pull the covers over your head and disappear but unfortunately it’s not that easy. To combat all the crappy-ness I’ve been through in life I’ve rounded up my 10 foolproof ways to get out of a slump & improve your life and it starts NOW:
EXPRESS GRATITUDE
Whether it be an appreciation phone call, surprise flowers or just emitting positive energy towards loved ones, I’ve learned that gratitude completely helps us see the world differently and allows us to open up and become more vulnerable in life. Always be thankful for what you have because it could always be worse.
DECLUTTER
My favorite of all! A clean, organized space really does create a clean and organized head space. Less is truly more and once you pinpoint and recognize what is necessary in your life, you will not allow anything that doesn’t belong.
FORGIVE
Sometimes we become our ego and forget to drop the heavy weight off our shoulders. This self-blockage completely stops us from letting go and moving on and also stops our ability to create long-lasting, trusting relationships.
KNOW WHEN TO SPEAK UP AND WHEN TO STAY QUIET
This is something I used to struggle with a lot. I’ve figured out that it’s important to listen to your gut and figure out whether speaking up will actually influence a rude person to change/become a better person OR if it will only spark an unproductive response. I am definitely one to not hide my feelings but as soon as I realize someone is not willing to listen I decide to stay quiet and let them go from my life. It’s not worth it. If something is bothering me, I say it. Sometimes it stirs the pot, but sometimes it’s better to stir the pot than to let the bottom burn. Catch my drift?
ELIMINATE NEGATIVE ENERGY
I’ve lived by this concept my whole life so listen — your space is sacred. You need to be completely territorial with yourself and not allow any negative individuals/energies come into your space. If something is affecting your happiness, remove it from your life. Simple as that. Hate that job? Find a new one. Tired of your crappy significant other? Break up with them. Can’t handle any more drama from that one person in your life? Drop them like a hot sack of potatoes. No more letting things you can control drag you down. At the end of the day, your space and wellbeing is all you have so make it count.
BELIEVE IN THE PROCESS
This is sometimes extremely hard for me but I’m always working on it. Believe in the process life has set for you and that can help keep you on track. Have faith that the things you desire in life will come to you when they are meant to.
SURROUND YOURSELF WITH PEOPLE WHO VALUE AND CHERISH YOU
This kind of goes hand in hand with the ridding yourself of negative energy but I’ll word it a bit differently here. There’s really no need to maintain friendships or relationships with people who bring you down or seep negativity into your life. When the people around you value you, you will always be a happier version of yourself.
LEARN FROM PEOPLE WHO INSPIRE YOU
Think about people you admire. People who inspire you. These people reflect certain qualities you want to have for yourself too. What are the qualities in them you want to have for yourself? How can you acquire these qualities?
KNOW THAT SADNESS IS JUST PART OF LIFE
The sad thing about life is you can’t always be happy. It’s a part of life. I know, such a bummer right? The truth is, the flowers can’t grow without a little water. Accepting the sadness is a step towards being happy. Accepting that sadness is just part of life is a step towards being a positive person.
KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE PRIZE
If you’re working towards an ultimate goal, don’t forget it. Keep fighting for your dreams and don’t let your eye off of them. I’ll be honest, sometimes I find myself stumped at what to write/create or start to feel myself getting off track. I compare myself to others and that’s when I stop and think back to why I started. To what I originally wanted to accomplish and it works every time.

These speak to me! I was definitely in a rough slump for a few years and had to touch on all of 10 of these to get better. I would also add “Have a consistent something”. For me that was exercising — helped keep me motivated and achieving the goal of exercising every day (minus weekends, because, come on!) gave me a sense of accomplishment that made me feel on top of the world. Little changes to your every day can make such a big impact.

Great tips!! I really love the Express Gratitude! I think we get so wrapped up in the nonsense that we forget to be grateful for all the blessings we have!
