Big hello’s to everyone from the Dominican Republic! As most of you know, I am here on vacation but of course I can never pass up the opportunity to document my travels with all of you! I posted my Day 1 VLOG the other day (you can also check it out here if you missed it) and today is the Day 2 VLOG! We had so much fun creating these VLOGS and I’m so excited to share them with all of you!
I have gotten a lot of requests from people to share where in the DR I’ve been vacationing, what I recommend and where I’ve been staying so I thought I’d kind of round everything up today!
So I have been coming to the Dominican Republic (in particular a town called Las Terrenas) about once to twice a year for about 3 years now. Reason being my mother bought a home here and so now it has become my 2nd home! Our family is a big lover of Caribbean warm weather tropical destinations, so naturally this was a perfect pick.
For those of you wondering about the town I’ll give you a bit of a background. Las Terrenas is located on the Samaná Peninsula in the DR. Being that we are French, my mother was looking for somewhere that had that European culture engraved and we found exactly that here. Samaná offers a complete European vibe where French and Italian are just as useful as Spanish. Now, Las Terrenas (where we reside) is the place for a very social scene while also being smack dab in the middle of Paradise!
Once a rustic fishing village, Las Terrenas today is a cosmopolitan town however what I love is you still get the complete sense of the culture while here. It hasn’t been taken over by large chain hotels and such — everything is very authentic. It’s very laid back however you still see fashionable-looking European women in designer sunglasses riding their personal ATVs with a bag of baguettes in tow, battling on roads with way too many motos. And when I say way too many motos, I mean it! Ha! We joke that it always sounds like there are bees buzzing around you because of everyone driving around on their quads – but hey, that’s all part of the experience in my opinion!
You can walk pretty much anywhere here and wherever you walk to you’ll most likely end up beachfront with somewhere to eat, drink and socialize. Another amazing thing? The beaches are virtually empty – I mean it! The beaches are to die for beautiful yet because of the miles and miles of beach you never seem to be right next to other people. As you all can see from my VLOG videos — there is barely anyone on the beaches next to me and I swear — we did not plan it that way.
Oh and let’s not even forget to mention the food. Everything is freshly caught, organic and all that jazz because let’s be honest, the Dominicans live off their beautiful land, and shouldn’t that be how we all live?! #Jealous There are so many different kinds of restaurants (Italian, French, Fusion and so much more) you will be in love! There are tons of things to see, endless amounts of beaches and you can take a number of different guided excursions if you want to explore even more.
All in all, you really can’t go wrong if you want to make a trip out here – everyone I know who has been has fallen in love with it and I don’t blame them one bit!!
