Who else thinks concealer is the best trick in their beauty routine?! I LOVE using a little concealer to brighten the eyes, hide unwanted dark spots/pimps and overall complete my base. When I’m in a pinch and don’t want to do a whole makeup look, I just pop a little concealer on and voila! It really is a life saver in my everyday routine.
If you don’t have the right concealer, the rest of your makeup isn’t going to work (in my opinion).
Here are some tips I’ve found when choosing the right concealer:
1. Pick a concealer with a yellowish tone.
Most of us have yellow tones in our skin so you need a concealer that has a little bit of yellow in it, not pink. You want something that lightens and brightens under the eyes, but doesn’t get rid of them completely. And if you’re going to do something white (or too light), it’s not going to work.
2. Choose the Right Shade.
When it comes to highlighting and brightening up dark circles I agree with the whole “one to two shades lighter” than your foundation. However, this color would not be ideal for covering spots and scars since going lighter would actually accentuate those areas rather than hide them. So you may need to a have a few different shades for exactly what you are trying to cover up. This will help you mix and match for any kinds of little flare ups whether its broken capillaries, inflamed pimples or even well, botox bruises.
3. Apply it like a Pro.
Whatever you’re putting on, I swear by doing it in natural light! Always moisturize your entire face first and give it time to be absorbed so that you have the perfect base to start with.
4. Don’t Over Do It.
If you are going for a more natural look (daytime) I say apply a few dots under the eyes from the inner corners to the centers and just use your fingertips to gently pat in the color and blend. When it comes to more of a night out when you may be doing a heavier makeup look, I like to apply concealer in a triangle under the eyes and use a damp beauty blender to really blend it in well. This will help in completely covering the area, and it instantly creates the illusion that your face is lifted.
5. Knowing What Comes First?
Always apply your foundation all over before going in with your concealer. If you are going for more color correcting you can use a color correcting concealer before foundation and then gently press your foundation in after. I personally always apply concealer after, however.
6. Concealer On Your Eyelids.
I personally am not an eyeshadow primer gal – it just is an added step that I just don’t really need. So if you are like me and don’t want to deal with/infest in eyeshadow primers, dab some concealer on your eyelids to prevent the shadow from falling off your lid or settling into creases. A concealer works amazing as an eyeshadow primer.
7. Fix Your Mistakes.
We all make mistakes while doing our eyes or even that perfect winged eyeliner look. I love using concealer to cover any mistakes or define the eye look even more. Just dip an angled brush in concealer and carefully use it to cover any mistakes. It’s easier and way quicker than starting over!
Those are my tips for choosing the right concealer and a few little hacks I’ve found useful along the way. Do you guys have any of your own? Let me know!
