I’ll be honest, being in this industry can be very hard when it comes to comparing yourself to all the thousands of beautiful women with the most perfect bodies. To be honest, it really is hard for any woman in any industry because for some reason, women all have that tendency to compare.
What’s wrong with us?!
In being completely transparent, I know the struggle of feeling happy with your body — I’ve looked in my mirror over the years and seen many different versions of myself, some that I’ve liked and others that I’ve hated. Getting to a neutral place or one where you love and accept yourself as you are is hard, HARD work.
So here’s a little message to anyone out there who has ever had some insecurities about their body and just gets down on themself from time to time (I know I have..) We all see unrealistic images of beauty everywhere, every day and I’ll be the first to tell you, Instagram is NOT reality. Who doesn’t look amazing with a professional makeover or a photo shoot with great lighting? There are apps these days to smooth out your skin, make you look skinnier and fix imperfections and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t use them once in a while. But here’s the deal, we’ve got to stop comparing ourselves to images we see in magazine or online, or better yet, stop comparing with anyone! Expecting to look like we stepped off the pages of a magazine or like a mannequin in a store is SO unrealistic. We need to embrace that. We all come in different shapes and sizes. We all have different goals and are at different parts of our journey. The most important thing is confidence and once you have that everything else goes out the window.
Self-love should not be conditional; you should not wait until you see a certain number on the scale to deem yourself worthy of acceptance. So wherever you are—whether you’re training for a marathon or you feel like you’re scared to start exercising—start with how you think about your body. Start with the words you tell yourself when you look in the mirror. Start with thanking your body for all that it has done for you, and for coming along on the journey you have ahead because without that healthy body, you have nothing.
