If you guys follow along on Instagram, then you probably know this past week I was gone on a trip to Costa Rica. With that being said, I decided to take a blogging break here. To be honest, in all the years I have been doing this I’ve never actually taken a full week of a break from posting here. Sounds crazy right? But to me it was a huge deal!
I think not only people with their own businesses tend to forget to take breaks, but we all tend to do the same in many aspects of our lives. For me it happens to be with my business, but other people can relate when it comes to their children, spouses, workouts, etc.. We all need time for ourselves, to reset and get back to that place we love.
About 2-3 weeks ago I had been feeling all sorts of anxiety (which I had mentioned a few posts back) and I had really been struggling with it. I had a lot of work on top of it and a few trips that were coming up and I was having a hard time coming up with a way to cope with it all. When it came for the time to leave on my trip last week, I was really thinking about how many hours I would get to sleep in the plane/airport because I had to make sure to write out my blog posts ahead of time and I was really just killing myself with exhaustion. I got to the point where I pulled my computer out on the plane and I literally caught my eyes closing. I finally told myself, you know what? What am I doing?! I’m exhausted, I’m heading to Costa Rica and I really need to take this time to reset. I deserve a little break too so I’m going to take a much needed break and take this week off.
Let me tell you — best decision I made so far. I came back feeling all sorts of refreshed, had some of the best sleep of my life and even people noticed when I got back to San Diego mentioning how happy and energized I look. I thought, wow — I definitely needed that.
It had me thinking that my first post back I definitely wanted to touch on the subject because I know we all tend to be our worst critics and we work ourselves to death!
So here is what I realized when it came to knowing when to take a much needed blogging break.
I need to take advantage of the nice weather while it’s here.
I need to rejuvenate myself.
I need to focus more on myself instead of on everyone else.
I need to be healthy.
I need to spend more time with my family.
I need a break from social media.
I need to plan for my future.
I need to take care of me, otherwise I cannot take care of everyone else.
How to Avoid Feelings of Guilt when On A Blogging (of ANY kind of) Break?
1. Remind yourself that you deserve a summer break – or blogging break – or whatever kind of break you are taking.
2. Remember that if you are honest with your readers, they will understand. They are human. They cannot fault you for being human, too.
3. Focus on the positives: you are helping your physical and mental health by taking a break. You need breaks in order to do other things. There is more to life than blogging, despite what you might think. Take time to smell the roses, enjoy the journey you’re on, revel in what you are doing with your life.
4. Enjoy the moment.
6. Find comfort in the fact that your break won’t last forever. It will be over before you know it. And then it’s back to the same ol’ grind.
Have you guys ever felt the same way? I’d love to hear how you overcame it as well!
