Everyone always wants to know how to layer their jewelry appropriately without looking like a total clown and since I’m a HUGE fan of layering, I thought I should do a post all about this! To me, an outfit just cannot be completed without lots and lots of jewelry.
It just feels empty and well,.. naked.
Call me crazy but there’s something about layering necklaces, rings and bracelets that is so sexy and today I’m giving you all of my tips on how to layer jewelry the right way!
First off: Go for a graduated effect—- delicate shorter necklaces with slightly chunkier, longer necklaces following after.
Stick to one metal color
My preference is to stick to the same color – either gold or silver and layer all the same colored items together. Mixing can sometimes work, but I’m not a huge fan of it so I prefer to stick with one.
A lariat necklace is my absolute FAVORITE way to add length.
I usually always wear a lariat necklace when I am wearing any kind of low cut or v-neck top since I feel that with other necklaces layered, it looks amazing!
PS – I am a HUGE fan of Chokers and they make absolutely AMAZING layering pieces since they can take the spot as your shortest necklace layer if doing the graduated effect.
If necklaces are not too chunky, feel free to play up bracelets and rings accordingly!
As with anything, my motto is everything in moderation. If I am wearing more chunky necklaces or statement pieces, I would probably not opt to too much jewelry on my hands BUT when the pieces are more dainty and subtle you ALWAYS have to play it up! Again, stick with your same metals so everything matches well!
When it comes to the rings, I always pick one statement ring.
This would be my “showstopper” ring. Then, I surround my other fingers with very plain rings or midi rings with very small designs or none. Midi rings are also known as knuckle rings, which I am obsessed with and can be extremely trendy and elegant these days!
As you can see in the photo below, I’ve added a matching bangle to my wrist which goes very nicely with the ring. Another one of my absolute favorite items is an elegant hand chain that you can see worn on my other hand.
There is something so sexy about a hand chain. If you don’t already have one, I suggest you jump on it, immediately. Your welcome.
As you can see, that hand/wrist I left more bare since the hand chain steals the spotlight.

When it comes to layering, I try to think of my main areas, necklace, rings & bracelets of course while taking into account the types of pieces I am adding and what kind of effect I am going for. I am a huge believer that jewelry can completely make an outfit and for that I always say it’s important to experiment with your jewelry and try new combos. One item can look so much different just by adding others to it and layering — it really makes you look at jewelry in a different light!
I hope you guys found these tips on how to layer jewelry useful and as usual let me know if you have any questions!
