As you guys know, I’ve been on a big fitness kick – working out about 4-5 times a week and also with a trainer. After slimming out and seeing some results I was a bit nervous to go on vacation for 2 weeks because well, we all know what happens on vacay! Lots and lots of indulging, however I was determined to not to let it have the best of me and ruin all my results.
Everyone has seemed pretty interested in my fitness journey so I thought I’d update you guys on how to stay fit while on vacation. I wish there was a simpler way than to say watch what you eat, but unfortunately that is the only option here! I’m a total sucker for bread, cheese and pasta BUT I know that would set me back so I kept to my normal routine (for the most part).
Like I mentioned previously about my diet, I’ve mostly tried to cut out carbs (unless they are good carbs).
My mornings consist of eggs and avocado (and a coffee) and my meals are typically strict to meat/fish and vegetables. I tried to steer away from breads, cheeses, croissants (which there are a TON here) and similar items. I know I know, it doesn’t sound like a lot of fun but when you get the results you’ve been wanting for a long time, it’s easier than you’d think. I don’t drink every night (although a cocktail or two was really tempting most nights) but instead I keep it to one glass of wine or cocktail about two times a week on vacation. I keep the same routine at home as well but I’m a little more strict with myself.
As far as workouts go, I still keep up with my workouts every other day and towards the end I’ve slacked to maybe 2-3 times a week (I mean, it IS vacay, right?!). Because I knew I wasn’t going to have access to a gym I planned ahead. I got resistance bands (here and here) and took them with me on vacation.
Why I love resistance bands so much? They are extremely compact and don’t weigh much making it super easy to travel with. Plus, if you learn how to use them, you can do virtually any workout you want!
I wrap them around any posts we have at home to do my workouts and even palm trees on the beach and you can get an awesome workout! Stay tuned for a video to come!
Anyways, moral of the story is I have been pretty good with my diet sticking to primarily protein and vegetables and cutting out carbs while still keeping up with my workouts. Even though I haven’t been as strict as I would be with both at home, I look at it as a vacation where I can cheat a little but just not go overboard.
Obviously this is only something I have done and might not sound super fun to everyone else BUT it’s honestly what works for me and I can go home not feeling the total guilt we all have when we leave a vacation! I am not going to lie though, I am SUPER excited to get back to my normal routine!
If you all have any additional questions let me know and I’m happy to answer them!
XOXO
