There’s nothing worse than waking up after a night eating and drinking everything in sight to find your swollen face staring back at you in the mirror. Heck, forget the eating/drinking, I sometimes wake up feeling like that after just staying up late watching Netflix. Instead of feeling depressed and wanting to cry my eyes out the next day, I usually give myself a face massage either with my fingertips or by using a jade roller. To be honest, a lot of the time I do this at the end of the night while watching tv and it completely relaxes me and gets all my oils/creams to soak into my skin.
As an esthetician I’ve learned the proper ways to massage the skin and although that may sound weird, I swear it makes a difference. So here are my tips on how to use a jade roller and if you don’t have one, you can follow these steps by using your fingertips as well.
First, start at the chin, and roll horizontally out to the hairline. The pressure should be light and comfortable on the skin. You always want to push everything out rather than massage in if that makes sense.
Next, move up to the nose, and roll from the corner of the nose out towards the ears. I like to focus in the hollows of my cheeks since I think it helps define your cheekbones a bit (wishful thinking maybe). Again, always remember to move out towards your ear rather than in.
Now use the small end of the jade roller, and place it in the inner corner of the eye. Roll out toward the temples. Next, place the roller on the eyebrows, follow your brow bone and roll downwards, ending at the temples.
Finish by rolling the middle of the forehead horizontally out towards the temples. Also, roll from the middle of your eyebrows upwards to the hairline. Again, you will notice every time you roll (or massage) you are pushing outwards towards your hairline. This is the proper lymphatic drainage massage.
I swear, try doing this in the evening or in the morning when you are feeling a little more puffy than usual and your skin will look/feel amazing after! If you are consistent you will definitely notice a big difference as well. The reason this works so well and they call in a lymphatic drainage massage is because it is a gentle massage that targets the lymph-nodes and drains toxins. By massaging outwards, you are getting rid of those toxins and pushing them away from your face.
I recommend doing this once you’ve applied your day or night cream (or oils) to your skin. This will really ensure everything gets soaked in.
Amazon has a ton of jade rollers that you can check out and here is one of my favorites.
