Many people think that if they keep pushing themselves non-stop mentally/physically then it will lead to better and quicker results. I’ll be honest, I am guilty of this. In the long term, this is usually the opposite. Lately I have been feeling all sorts of run down, tired and stressed to the max. I have finally come to the realization that the people who succeed in life know how to get things done in less time and then go enjoy their life to the fullest. Basically, knowing when to take a break.
I know I’m not alone here which is why I thought it was a good idea to shed light on this topic. Listen, it’s not about how much you can do in your life, it’s about WHAT you really do. There are enough distractions out there to derail us but we have to be smarter in life to learn the identify ourselves with whatever activities actually help vs. the ones that just keep our wheels spinning.
Does that make sense?
So what I am learning to do more of? Focus on what you want and just don’t do stuff to kill time. I’ve learned time is all you have in life – it truly is the greatest gift day in and out. Along with this is having too many obligations or commitments and I’ve definitely had issues with this in the past. It is one thing to participate in the things you really do enjoy, but another is to feel like you have to do everything that pops up because someone asks you to do it. The answer is well,.. learn to say “no” to people. Stop caring what they will think if you are not a part of it. It’s your life to live and only those that want to spin their wheels stay crazy busy like that. It’s important to use your time for your own journey and not everyone else’s.
Something I have been telling myself when I feel unmotivated and stressed is that I need to just get out and “play.” Nothing helps me more than getting outside and doing something I enjoy that is NOT related to work. I’ve started telling myself I’m going to go for more bike rides, walking my dog more and just heading to the beach to get some sun because all of these small activities help relax me more than you know. The key is to make it fun and uncomplicated. Forget the cell phone, leave the ipod at home, don’t worry about the computer/emails. Shut it all off and just go play.
So in the hustle and bustle of today’s fast paced society remember that sometimes less is really more, especially when you are focused and then have time to enjoy your daily life. Life isn’t that complicated, it’s only what YOU make it to be. The only one with the power to make changes is you, so I think it’s time we all take a step back and figure out what makes us most happy and hell, .. live it up.

I agree with you 100%. We live in a world that fast-pace mean success but in reality it leads to being unproductive!
