Okay, I’m going to be super honest in today’s post and talk a little about owning designer items. I don’t know why this came to the forefront of my mind today but it did and I thought it was something worth discussing since many people go both left and right on the topic.
Now, lets get one thing straight. Growing up, I never owned a high end designer item. It was always something that was unattainable and just seemed completely out of reach and hey, that was OK. Another thing – I have never been given or “gifted” a high end designer item as a blogger. Everything I currently have is from my hard earned money and well, treating myself when I feel I can. One thing is for sure, I feel as a blogger I was late to the whole “designer” trend. I remember when I was first starting out and following all these girls on Instagram, I was shocked to see how many women had designer items. I felt a little out of place and confused because I just had NO MEANS to do so and not only that — I didn’t see a point in spending that kind of money on a bag, belt or shoes if that makes sense. I was always more focused in paying down my credit card debt, buying a house, or saving for retirement so I put all the “materialistic” things on hold.
While I LOVE the handful of designer items I have now, I do not regret the route I went in the least bit. In fact, I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I don’t think I ever even purchased my first designer item until after I had paid down all my debt and bought a place of my own. After which, I was still terrified to spend that kind of money on a material item. But once I was comfortable years later, I decided to make the splurge and I’m so happy I did.
So here’s the bottom line with my thoughts on owning designer items — I think there should be less pressure for women to own these things, but then again I do see the value in it. I now ONLY wear my designer handbags and shoes out really just because the quality is unlike anything else. Rather than having 15 random bags, I may now have 4 quality bags that I actually do wear and take care of all the time. Designer items will hold their value very well, they will last forever and just make you so happy to know you earned a gift to yourself like that. Life is short and in the end its important to make smart choices but to also allow yourself to indulge a little and treat yourself to something you’ve always wanted because if all that work was for nothing, then what was the point of it to begin with?
What is your guys’ taste on high end designer items? Let me know!

I like this honest post, I wrote a very similar one some time ago. I only own one designer handbag and not even a really expensive one, but I love it and I really take care of. I agree, there should not be so much pressure for having it, but I see the point in buying it.

I agree with what you said. I have accrued a few designer items over the years but not until after I was able to. I found it frivolous to buy designer items and very grateful for what I do have at this point of my life. Btw, those Fendi boots look amazing!
