Although we have a few more days of 2017 left I thought it would be appropriate to write a little post reflecting on this past year. I feel like this time of year is seen as a transition for many (if not all) of us. You actually step back from life to reconsider where you’ve been and where you want to go (or so at least I do).
I have been thinking a lot these last few days about all the ups and the downs and well, understanding that it’s all part of our journey in some way, shape or form. I have definitely found myself aware of my losses and struggles as well as have a strong appreciation of all the good that has happened which makes me SO excited to celebrate a brand new year ahead.
With that being said, I decided to answer a few questions to further help me reflect on this year and I encourage you all to do the same! It’s actually incredibly therapeutic!
What went well?
Sometimes we tend to get so focused on all the stressful things that happened that we easily forget the GOOD that comes with any given year. It seems that we are usually working so hard and fast that our brains tend to erase the positive and focus on all the pressures.
2017 was by far my best year when it came to EVERYTHING. I can honestly say I’ve never been in a better place in my life. I’ve grown so much as a person, turned 30 this year, my business has become something I never imagined and what makes me most happy?… This is only the beginning!
What needs to be left behind?
I’ve learned that life and work pressures demand the best of us and well, sometimes can consume us and hold us back. Especially in my field, I’ve found myself in the past comparing and stressing about people and things that are so unimportant that it affects how I am actually performing. Comparisons and unnecessary competition definitely needs to be left behind in my mind. Focus on the things you CAN change, and the rest will fall into place.
What did this year teach you?
Friendships, Relationships and Family. I’ve definitely had a much deeper appreciation for these three things this year. As I’ve gotten older I’ve come to the realization that the relationships you build with people can be so incredibly fulfilling. I’ve also learned that not everyone you meet has to be your best friend! It’s OK that you get along better with certain people than others. But above all, always treat people with respect, always cherish the family you have and always work to make someone smile because at the end of the day, what else is life for?
