Hey guys, happy Monday! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I had a pretty low key weekend — went to an event one night and then spent the rest of the weekend doing a TON of spring cleaning. When I say I got rid of a lot of stuff, I mean I got RID of a lot of stuff. I hate to say it but I’m guilty of accumulating so much stuff over the months/years especially with what I do for a living so it was long overdue. It felt SO good to go through my closets and take out what I didn’t need and give it to the less fortunate. Here are some of my favorite spring cleaning tips and tricks.
Some people regularly ask me how I decide what to keep and what to give away and well although there isn’t an easy answer for that, I live by the motto if I haven’t worn it in about 6-12 months I’m probably not going to ever again so it’s time to part ways. I try not to get emotionally attached to clothing because these are material things that come and go. There will always be a new pair of jeans you can buy or those hot new heels and lets be honest — once you get a new item I’d say you’re about 90% more likely to wear it than you year older items. Easier said than done, I know.
The one thing I am more particular about is my outerwear since those are items I spend a lot of money on and really never go out of style. For example, a good leather or suede jacket is a must and it will never go out of style so I hold onto those for dear life. I tend to hold onto my higher-end brands and then let go of the items that didn’t cost me an arm & a leg.
Another option if you have a higher end designer piece or more expensive clothing is to consider putting them in a different pile and once you have a bag or two full take it to a consignment store! I’ve done this many times and it’s so nice because it doesn’t hurt as badly to know that someone else will re-purchase it in a way and you’ll make a slight commission off of that. More of an excuse to go stopping! Ha!
Regardless, remember it feels SO good to get rid of the old and make room for the new so I’m all for it!
