If you guys have been following me on Instagram then you know I just went through a huge backyard renovation. The process itself took about 6 weeks to complete but I couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out! When I first bought my house about a year ago I really had this dream to have a large outdoor space that I could work from, entertain and have a large space for my dogs as well.
I’ve always been a huge homebody so I wanted to create different areas in my backyard that I could really enjoy when I’m home and well, I feel like I achieved that!.
If you guys saw my before images, it was really just a whole lot of grass, and tons of overgrown trees. I had a Landscape Architect design my space and then a company actually build it out according to his plans. Once completed I was SO eager to furnish the space and of course my go-to as you guys know has always been Ikea! This was my first time purchasing Ikea outdoor furniture and I LOVE the options they had!
I had an idea of all the different spaces I wanted furnished, so what I did was went to the Ikea Outdoor section on their website to get a better idea of what would fit my style.
They have some amazing tools there like an option to create a “shopping list” which was what I did and I then started adding everything to it to keep it all organized.
With this I was able to print my order and head to the store and really check out the pieces in person to see if I liked them! Once I finalized all the items I wanted, I decided to order it online to make everything easy for me. It was SUCH a breeze, and my delivery date was set about a week later! What I love most about Ikea is that it really is a one stop shop. I was able to get everything from the furniture to planter boxes, plants, dishes, accessories, lanterns and more. They really make it so easy to get everything you need at one time.
So lets get into the fun stuff.. the Ikea outdoor furniture I chose!
I truly wanted a sense of that indoor/outdoor living and entertaining so when we designed my space, I had multiple areas to spend time in and entertain. I loved Ikea’s furniture options because they are trendy, contemporary (which is totally my style), affordable, durable and just perfect for outdoors! Lets dive into the different spaces I furnished:
Outdoor Dining Area: Since I have a more contemporary/modern aesthetic, I fell in love with the new Sjalland Series! This set is completely customizable for your style preference. You basically choose the underframe in the size you prefer, then add a top which is either aluminum, glass or wood. To fit my aesthetic I gravitated towards the glass top and I absolutely LOVE it. Next, they offer different chair options such as a reclining chair, armchair and bench to choose from. I went for the armchairs and I also added a bench for extra seating if needed! There was the option to leave it as is, or add some cushions which I did for added comfort. The umbrella I went with was the Kuggo/Lindoja in Black!
Fire Pit/Lounge Area: We specifically designed this area to have an area to lounge/relax while also sitting and enjoying a nice fire. When it was originally designed, we had it in a circle so I knew when it came to the furniture, I wanted it to really fit the look. I LOVED a ton of Ikea’s lounge options but I thought the Kloven set worked perfect for my space since it was minimal, and not bulky. I originally wanted to go with the loveseat as well as chairs since I loved the look but instead just decided to go for 4 of the Kloven armchairs to place in more of a circle and I think it worked PERFECT! The chairs came with the cushions and are SO comfortable. I plan on adding some additional pillows from Ikea soon as well. (Throw is from Ikea as well!)
Bistro Set: What I love about this house is that each bedroom has a door to the backyard and I wanted to create was a nice cozy space outside of my bedroom to sit outside have a cup of coffee or glass of wine. I wanted something small and cute like a bistro set for this. Ikea had SO many cute bistro options but ultimately I went with the Lacko set because I felt it fit my style more. I feel the iron look gives a nice romantic touch to my outdoor space. The plant stand is also from Ikea although I have had it for years so I believe they’ve updated their styles and have a ton of other options like this one that I’m loving.
Sun Deck: An area to lay out and enjoy the sun was very important to me as so I created a nice little “sun deck” to enjoy. One of my favorite pieces has got to be the Torholmen Lounge Chairs. These are very lightweight, and reclines to 4 different positions. It was important to me to find a lounge chair that is comfortable enough on its own and doesn’t need cushions and this one is IT! I added these little outdoor pillows for extra comfort/style and it’s all available at Ikea as well! As a nice table to set drinks, magazines, sunscreen and such on I really loved the Krokholmen outdoor table! I find it to be super durable and easy to take care of which was very important to me for an outdoor table.
EXTRAS:
Storage Unit: I definitely needed some kind of storage unit to protect my outdoor cushions for when it rains. I loved the Tostero Storage Box because it’s simple, large and can be placed up against a wall. It fits all of my cushions easily and makes my life way easier!
Panter Boxes/Stands: I actually saw the Askholmen Plant Stand and Flower Box in store and I knew I had to have it! It was just a nice decorative addition to my space (and all the plants/pots are also from Ikea)!
Lanterns: I have one small and one larger lanterns that I think adds an additional romantic touch to the space!
Serving Cart: The Klasen serving cart is one of my favorite pieces – I’m totally obsessed with how it adds so much to the space. It’s perfect for outdoor entertaining, dishes, drinks and preparing anything you may need. Plus, it’s on wheels which makes it so easy to transport around. A ton of the dishes/accessories that you see on it are also all from Ikea as well!
I couldn’t be more thrilled with how my outdoor space turned out and I can’t thank Ikea enough for helping me furnish my space into a dream backyard! Summer entertaining, here I come!
