Dating… Oh, the dreaded dating word. It’s that thing we love to hate and hate to love.
<insert eye roll emoji>
Now trust me, I am by no means a dating expert,.. In fact, I’ve been single for oh I don’t know,.. 2 years or so? With that being said I may not be the best to help you in the dating world BUT I am quite in love with clothes so I might know a thing or two on how to dress the part.
So for me, when it comes to a first date, I’m all about grabbing a drink whether it be an alcoholic beverage or a coffee. Over time however, I’ve realized the coffee option is a MUCH smarter decision. Why? Well there are the obvious reasons — there is no alcohol involved, it’s typically in the daytime, no chance of you heading back late night somewhere, oh and did I mention there’s no alcohol involved?
I know, I know, easier said than done BUT I’m all for coffee dates.
With that being said, we ALL do it– agonize over what to wear for any kind of date asking your friend, your mom, roommate or heck even your next door neighbor desperately trying to figure out if you put together the right “I didn’t try too hard but really I did,” outfit. Common, you know its true.
So today I’m rounding up some tips on what to wear on a coffee date.
Give yourself enough time to steam or iron your outfit! I can’t stand seeing someone in a completely wrinkly outfit. Pet Peeve! Also, pick something that fits you well and something you feel confident in. The happier you are in what you are wearing the more confidence you will exude.
For a casual coffee date I would reach for anything from jeans to a casual dress. Like I said above — make sure it’s comfortable! Personally for me, I’m always a bit girlie so I would do either jeans or a denim skirt with a favorite off the shoulder top (like the photo above). Right now it’s right on trend and it still shows a little skin without overdoing it. You still look feminine and cute and look like you tried but not TOO hard. Remember, we all want that “I just threw this on” vibe.
You can laugh, but it’s true.
Don’t show too much skin on the first date and avoid going too heavy on the makeup. Natural and minimal makeup is always best for first date. Oh and never try to reinvent the wheel on the first date. That brand new lipstick that you really want to try — save it for another day and go for your all time favorite one instead.
If it’s a colder day, go with a dress or jeans and some kind of a staple jacket like a leather jacket (always a fav of mine). Do flats or wedges depending on the setting but I would keep the heels and stilettos at home for this one. Always accessorize and don’t forget some cute sunnies!
Like I said, I’m not one to give dating advice but one thing I can say is be confident and be yourself. Wear what makes you feel good and represents the best version of yourself. The more confidence you have the more you will smile and have a great time.
XOXO

I think jeans and a cute top is appropriate for the first date! But than again it depends on the location 🙂 You look cute in the photo above!
