Going back to one of my last posts about the pros.& cons of being an entrepreneur, I thought while on the topic we might as well discuss how being an entrepreneur also means we can suffer from creative blocks from time to time as well. So the next time you’re stuck in a creative dead zone, read this list of 10 things you can do to get inspired.
Read.
My advice is to keep one or more motivational books or readings with you at all times. TBH, motivational books are my absolute favorite types of books to read as is so I usually am always on the hunt for the next great one. Sometimes it only takes one sentence to get your mind in gear on what you want to achieve in your day, your business and the bigger picture of your life. Reading something that hits home reminds you that your path to success is worth the hard work. Even when you’re having a bad day, having a book on hand is like having a pocket coach.
Money.
Before you think I’m some greedy money hungry person, let me explain. Money is a great motivator, I don’t think anyone can deny that. Money is a tool and resource which can be used for so much good. Money is also one of the greatest rewards acknowledging your hard work. It is not wrong to work for money, or to have making more money as a priority and important goal in your life. You should always strive to make more money. Increases in money often come hand-in-hand with increases in status and position; all which build confidence. With money comes the freedom to do more things. Having this type of freedom brings more happiness. That’s not to mean that money is everything, don’t get it twisted but you are never more inspired than when you are happy.
Exercise.
Getting outside, moving your body, getting fresh air and working up a sweat are highly creative ways to find inspiration. When you are at work, your mind is only focused on the task at hand, which leaves very little room for your right brained activities such as inspiration to come forth. When you exercise, the left brain is distracted by the task of exercising, allowing the more right brained emotions and ideas to come through. When you push yourself physically you learn how strong you are emotionally, and this helps to keep you inspired and believing in your capacities to continue pressing forward.
Stop Being A Perfectionist.
For a moment, allow something to be imperfect. I know, I know, easier said than done. But honestly, you don’t know how many people I come across who always tay they are “going to do something” or have been “working at it” for the past few years but to them it’s just never perfect. Trust me, it’s never going to be perfect. If I had waited to start my blog until I was perfect at it, I would have never started it to begin with. Start acting, even if that means going forward with an idea that isn’t totally refined just yet.
Never Stop Learning.
Take classes in your spare time, read scholarly articles and listen to lectures. The more you learn, the more opportunities you have to make connections and discover new ideas. If going to class isn’t your thing, there are now so many online platforms that provide learning programs for anything you are looking to do.
Surround Yourself with Things You Like.
You know what you like, then whether it is music or any beautiful painting or your old hobby. Make these things a part of your everyday life. They’ll energize you, which can help create the right mindset for being inspired.
One of the purposes of all of these activities is to calm and distract us. These things will make you feel happier, which will leave you feeling more positive about life. Having a positive outlook can make you more receptive to inspiration. Too often than not we do things we don’t really want to do to please others. Time to change that.
Take An Actual Break.
When you’re your own boss, it’s sometimes hard to step away from the screen and take a true break. Trust me, I know! Often we also have our lunch in front of our screen and respond to calls even after working hours. We keep ourselves online, even when we might think we are resting. I am SO guilty of this.
But really, by doing this, we are not giving ourselves a chance to think anything else. If you want to always be inspired in your life, be sure to take a true break during your workday. It makes all the difference in one’s energy level and ensures to have a clearer head for current & future projects.
Play with your dog, cat (or animal).
Listen if you guys have followed me for a while then you know nothing makes me happier than spending time with my dogs. Since I don’t have children, they really fill the void of that and it’s something so special I can’t explain. Sometimes when I’m feeling in a mental fog or down, it just takes spending some quality time with my dogs to inspire me to feel happier. In turn, when I’m happier I end up more creative.
Get Outside.
Whether your the type to go on an adventurous hike or just sit in your backyard, try to get some fresh air with no distractions and maintain some kind of connection outside. One long walk in the nature can change your way of looking at things, help you solve a problem, calm you and – most of all –inspire you.
Listen to Music.
Music is both a motivational and inspirational technique. Think about it, when we go to the gym or try to get an intense workout in, the music you usually choose completely gets you pumped up to complete the workout. The same goes for getting inspired. Listen to calming music, nature sounds, meditation or maybe you have a favorite artist that just completely inspires you. These are the best types of music that will get you to relax your mind, body & and soul and help you with that creativity.
Let me know if you guys have any other tips for ways to get inspired. I’m always looking at things I can do to improve my mindset and love hearing what works for others as well!. xoxo
