Since I did a recent makeup tutorial on my YouTube channel, I thought it was only fair to re-create it in blog format for those of you who prefer it in this format. I’ll be honest and say I’ve always had a pretty straight forward makeup routine and although I LOVE playing around with makeup, minimalistic to me is always a better look than full on glam. After all, I am French and you know all the Franchise out there swear by good skincare first and foremost THEN makeup.
Hope you guys enjoy my simple everyday makeup tutorial! Please make sure to “PIN” it and leave me comments if you have any questions or suggestions for future beauty posts you’d like to see!
STEP 1: PRIMER & FOUNDATION
To begin, I always start with a clean slate! I always make sure my face is fresh & moisturized before putting any product on it. I then apply primer with my fingers to ensure that my makeup lasts all day. While there are a few primers I like, lately I’ve been loving the Laura Mercier Primer.
Next I like to use either a brush or beauty blender (preferred) and apply foundation all over my skin making sure to blend it onto the neck area. One tip I’ve found that helps with a more flawless look is to wet your beauty blender a tad, wring it out, and then use it to blend. It works wonders for me! The foundation I’m using today is NARS Natural Radiant Longer Foundation and let me tell you — it’s AMAZING!
STEP 2: APPLY CONCEALER
I typically always wear a concealer under my eyes and to hide any blemishes. For the under eye area, a rule of thumb is to apply it in the shape of a triangle. This technique ensures a natural-looking coverage and brightens up the face a bit. I also like to apply concealer to the bridge of my nose and blend it all in with a beauty blender. One of my favorite concealers right now is the Laura Mercier Secret Concealer. It has the right consistency and blends in so well.
STEP 3: SET FOUNDATION WITH POWDER
I always like to set my makeup with a translucent powder and my all time favorite is the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder. The day I discovered this powder all my others were put to the side — true story. Although you can apply the powder all over the face, I usually just lightly apply it on my t-zone area since I prefer a dewey look and would rather it not look completely matte.
STEP 4: BRONZE
I don’t by any means call myself a makeup artist which is why this next step only kind of identifies with the contouring term. Basically I always like to lightly use a bronzer to enhance certain features and give myself a little more color. I always apply a bit of bronzer in the hollows of my cheeks, jawline and forehead. Using: Laura Mercier Bronzer in Bronze
STEP 5: BLUSH
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I am a TOTAL blush girl. If I had to choose one makeup item I swear mine would hands down be blush. I always encourage people to wear blush more because I think it makes a huge difference in a makeup look. I think people get a bit nervous about it but it’s honestly the best thing ever! I always apply blush to the apples of my cheeks and extend it a bit outward towards my ear. My favorite blush colors actually come from MAC like the one I’m using below in the shade Melba.
STEP 6: HIGHLIGHT
I’m a BIG highlight fan. I love anything that gives my makeup look more of that dewey look. I’ve always been a fan of Laura Mercier’s Face Illuminator. All of the shades are amazing, but my favorite is Indiscretion. I just apply it with a fan brush to my cheekbone area, tip of my nose, and cupids bow.
STEP 7: EYESHADOW
I’ve been loving this NARS Wanted Eyeshadow Palette! I always go for more neutral colors and just a pop of darker color so I feel this palette has exactly that. I apply the top left color (light pink/beige) onto my whole lid and then go in with the dark brown color on the outer corner and crease. Then just use a brush to blend it all in seamlessly.
STEP 7: EYELASHES
I don’t have lash extensions or anything so I like to enhance my lashes the old fashioned way! I always curl my lashes with an eyelash curler and then apply a great mascara. One trick I’ve found is that drugstore mascara’s work the same or even better than fancy department store ones! My absolute favorite right now is the L’Oreal Lash Paradise mascara. It’s amazzzzing.
STEP 2: LIPSTICK
My last step in my makeup routine is to apply a lipstick or lip gloss. Today I used the Smashbox Be Legendary Lip Gloss in Bad B. I have so many of these lip glosses because I feel they are not sticky, give amazing color and last a long time!! Most the time I will line my lips as well, but sometimes when I’m in a rush I just apply this and go!
