It’s Friday which means time to get out and celebrate the weekend! I’ll be honest, I used to be slightly afraid to wear red lipstick back in the day because I thought it was too bold and intimidating but I eventually started to slowly incorporate it into my makeup look here and there and became obsessed. I realized the key to a great red lip look is to find the right red lipstick shade for you and to try to keep everything else minimal on your face when it comes to your makeup. The worst thing is to do a heavy eye, and then a bold lip – it’s just too much. Pick one or the other, catch my drift?
In light of the weekend, I’ve rounded up top 5 red lipstick shades of the moment. Of course, there are plenty more but these are some of my “musts” and the ones I reach for the most often.

1 – Chanel Rouge Coco. Shade: Pirate. This is as cult as it gets.As cult as it gets. The French are known for their iconic red lips, so who better than Chanel to nail the perfect shade (and finish)?
2 – Clarins Joli Rouge. Shade: Cherry Red. The Joli Rouge Lipstick is moisturising, and is infused with fine pearls to make your lips look shiny and juicy. This shade is a bright red, and has warm undertones in it. It’s the one I’m using in the photo below!
3 – NARS Audacious Lipstick. Shade: Rita. This one is a classic blue-toned red shade and gorgeous. The formula is creamy, pigmented, and long-lasting. They don’t dry out the lips either!
4 – Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick. Shade: Bawse. I feel like this is one of those red lipsticks that really could look good on everyone. Also, if you are a fan of matte lipsticks, then this one would be for you!
5 – MAC. Shade: Ruby Woo. This one is one of the most iconic red lipsticks known in the makeup world. It’s a bright cherry red that will brighten up your complexion. It also has a matte finish that’s known not to budge once it has set on the lips! The only issue I have sometimes is it tends to dry out my lips a bit so in this case I carry around a little lip balm for touch ups.
