Haters, trolls, bots, and just plain negative people – whatever you want to call it, it’s a real thing ESPECIALLY if you have any kind of social presence online. Fortunately, I haven’t had TOO much of this but I’d be lying if I told you it never happened. With that being said, a question I get asked a lot is how to deal with negativity in the blogging/social media world and I felt it was something important to address because let’s be honest, no one likes it! So let’s dive into dealing with negativity in the online community and how we can stay positive through it all.
The simplest and most direct way to destroy trolls’ power? Ignore their hateful comments and refuse to engage with their negativity. People who have that much time to send you hurtful comments literally feed off of attention. They WANT to hurt you so if you engage then you are giving them exactly what they want. As much as you want to defend yourself, move past it and just completely IGNORE. They aren’t worth your breath anyways.
If you MUST respond, try to fight back with positivity! Haters want to bring out the worst in you so if you kill them with kindness you are doing the complete opposite from what they thought you would. Also, think about it — for every one negative comment there are SO many positive and loving comments so why let that one get to you? In the end, they are following you for a reason right?
Another thing you can do? Practice self care. Dealing with negativity can be exhausting and discouraging, so remember to take care of yourself. If a rude comment really got to you, call a friend or family member to vent and get perspective. I have done this more times than I can count and there hasn’t been one time that it didn’t help me tremendously.
Always try to remember – no matter how “personal” a comment may seem—such as someone on Instagram criticizing your looks—those hateful words are coming from their insecurities and baggage.

I haven’t had to deal with negativity on social media yet but I have seen it on other bloggers channels. I don’t like it and I agree that the best way is to really move on and not dwell one single second on it. At the end of the day, it is their baggage and issues. I am just shocked that some folks still do this. I thought high school was years ago you know. Happy Easter!
