You guys know I like to get personal here a lot. It’s my place to be creative, vent and chat with you all. It’s kind of like my own personal diary — except everyone has a chance to read it. However, the one thing is — I love that people can read it because there’s a chance someone out there relates to me in a small way, and because of that it’s so fulfilling, which is why I wanted to share with you an important life lesson I came across recently.
The other day I came across the article that everyone has been sharing with each other. The story of the young 27 year old woman who lost her battle with cancer and wrote a farewell letter to the world. I have to say, I’ve never been so touched from reading an article in my life. The minute I read it, I was flooded with tears and not only in sadness for the young woman but because she was so brave to write such a heartbreaking letter that has SO much value in it.
Lately I’ve been reflecting and looking at life in a different way – being appreciative for the things I do have and so reading this article came at the perfect time. Here are the things I took from it and what I think we all need to realize when we get upset over the little things.
1. Life is a gift and your time could be up at any moment. I mean, look at this young (and beautiful) woman who lost her life far too soon. Life is a complete gift and we are lucky to be given a chance at it.
2. Your problems are tiny and meaningless. I mean, lets be honest — how often do you complain about something so insignificant? I know I do. Taking a step back, we should be so grateful for the fact that we are here, have our health and can spend it with the ones we love. Who cares about the stupid stuff. Sometimes I think back and wonder why in the world I could get upset about the things I do. We are all human and we do it, but it’s time to try to catch ourselves and make it stop.
3. Stop worrying about the small stuff. I worry all the time, this is something I’m trying to work on. But when you think about it, in the big picture I guarantee whatever you are stuck worrying about is SO insignificant and not worth it one bit.
4. What really matters in life is love, friends & family. Life is nothing without being loved and giving love. The most important thing in life is family – I know this and try to cherish it every moment I can.
5. Do good in life and you will not only feel amazing about it but the universe will reward you in some way for the kind gestures you’ve done. This is something I try to live my life by.
and finally?
The best things in life are FREE. Reassess your life priorities, live with joy and realize that although we all enjoy material things here and there, it’s really not the best of life. Go for a walk, watch the sunsets, enjoy the fresh air, play with you dog and tell the people in your life how much they mean to you. That’s what really matters in life.
If you guys have a chance to read Holly’s letter, I highly recommend you doing it but I’m warning you now, you’ll need a few tissues close but I promise it is an eye opening letter that will have you feeling grateful you did.

When I first read that letter, it hits home to me.I was diagnosed with cancer a couple years ago and I couldn’t relate more. Life and time is precious and we shouldn’t waste our efforts on complaining insignificant things. So true that the best things in life are free.
