A job and a career are usually used in the same context, but they actually mean pretty different things. While both are focused on how you earn your money, there are so many more differences that I’ve learned through time.
So what is a career vs. job? A job is something you simply do for the money. Maybe it isn’t something you are entirely passionate about but it something you do everyday because it is how you make ends meet. Careers are more long-term and are about learning, gaining experience, and building connections. I love this quote:
“Working hard for something we don’t care about is called stress; working hard for something we love is called passion.” – Simon Sinek.
To be honest, that statement couldn’t be more true. I used to be so unhappy with my job. I used to hate getting up everyday and going to work because I just looked at it as a “job” and not as my career, if that makes sense. It was then that I realized I needed to make a change.
I learned in the end, we must remember that the goal is all about feeling content and happy, on every single day of your life with whatever you choose to do. Some people have jobs paying lucratively, but stress is all they carry back home along with their six or seven digit paycheck. And there are others, who maybe don’t make as much but come back home with a smile and an eagerness to continue working. This eagerness only comes with the sense of satisfaction and happiness in your work is giving you.
In the end, it is your call to think about what makes you happy and what you feel is worth all your hard work and sacrifices. Choosing a job or a career is your choice, but I feel down the lane of life, when we look at our choices, they should only make us proud of ourselves. We must try our best to not make decisions that we will end up with regret later down the road.
Just a little food for thought this Thursday. Keep smiling.

This is a nice food for thought. There is a difference and I like how you described it. In the end, it is a personal choice but definitely important to know what it means for us individually.

So trueeee. I love what I do and would never change a thing about it. Glad to hear we’re both on the same boat friend.
