I don’t know about you guys but I spend most my time in my family/living room so this was the space that I wanted to feel the coziest and most inviting for my new property. But of course since it is a rental property, I didn’t want to spend a fortune and wanted to make it as cute as possible on a budget. Here’s how. Since the home has mid-century modern vibes I wanted to stick to blacks, whites and wood tones but I obviously didn’t want it to feel lifeless either so I tried to find a way to add a bit of color which is why when I found this mustard colored sofa, I knew it was the perfect piece to add to the space. It had the exact style I was looking for and I knew it would blend in well with the rest of the look of the home.
Since this space isn’t entirely super large, adding something like a huge sectional I felt would close up the room so I wanted to keep the pieces more minimal to make it feel open and airy. Adding items like these two crochet ottomans and the sofa chair just helped keep the space from feeling cluttered but at the same time added additional seating for guests when needed and trust me, I tried out everything and comfort level was 100!
The pricier items in this space were the sofa (understandable), chair and the media console while everything I kept very reasonable. Here’s a breakdown of the costs and where I got everything!
GINGER MID-CENTURY MODERN SOFA & CHAIR: Living Spaces – still an incredibly good deal for a sofa and chair and super comfortable!
MEDIA CONSOLE: Living Spaces – This was a one of a kind item from Living Spaces “Elements” line and unfortunately no longer available but they have a lot of other options available. This actually was advertised as a buffet but I used it as a media console!
CHUNKY KNIT POUF OTTOMAN: Target – Found these at Target and thought they fit the vibe perfectly. I really liked that they held their shape, even if you sat on it so it didn’t get all flat saif you know what I mean.
COFFEE TABLE: Home Depot – I originally had my eye on this coffee table but at a steep cost of $700 plus about $200 for shipping, I decided it was a bit more than I wanted to spend. So I found this very similar option from the Home Depot for $332 and decided to go with that.
RUG: Ikea – One of my all-time favorite rugs is the LOHALS rug and it happens to only be $129. The quality is great for the price and I’ve recently told myself I will no longer be spending money on rugs – they just get destroyed too easily and not worth it to me
END TABLE: Target – Under $100 for a ceramic end table, such a good steal!
ROUND MIRRORS: Target – Wanted to add some mirrors within the space since mirrors always seem to make a room appear larger. Found these and just loved the style. FYI mirrors can get quite pricey so these were a relatively good find.
FAUX PLANTS: Ikea – When I’m looking for budget faux plants, I always go to Ikea. They have some great options and they offer some of the lowest prices I’ve found (especially for larger plants).
VARIOUS FRAMES (ON MANTLE): Hobby Lobby – I was just searching for some cute prints or artwork and didn’t want to break the bank here. Hobby Lobby always has a ton of options at a great price.
Some other items like the TV, coffee table books and other small decor items were items I had already that I re-used in this home so it saved me a little money! Let me know if you guys have any other questions!!
