As you guys probably know, I have gone through quite the renovation with my home and backyard space. When I first bought my home, the backyard was one thing that was a big selling feature. It was very large, had a ton of potential but truly was a literal forest. I always wanted to transform it into a little oasis where I could spend my time outdoors and well, that’s exactly what I did! Whether your space is big or small, here are some ways you can spruce up your backyard space to enjoy it just a bit more as well!
Create a Hangout Space
One of my most used areas in my backyard is the area I created to entertain and relax. I spend almost everyday here and love it so much. Whether you decide to install a deck, pour concrete or lay bricks, when you add an outdoor hangout area you definitely invite more enjoyment and activity.
Grow a Garden
Plants and flowers add beauty to your surroundings and help you take full advantage of time spent outdoors. I have tons of plants in my backyard and even a little garden with herbs such as rosemary, mint, basil & cilantro!
Add a Fire Pit
There’s nothing cozier than sitting around a fire on a chilly night. A fire pit extends the hours in which you can enjoy your yard, giving you the perfect place to roast marshmallows at night or gather for conversations with friends as the sun sets.
Add a Water Feature
One of my favorite features in my backyard is that we added a pretty water feature in the middle of the backyard. The sound of flowing water totally gives you a feeling of peace and comfort and fountains these days come in all kinds of styles and sizes to fit your needs.
Hang Outdoor Lights
I don’t have hanging outdoor lights but I do have a lot of pathway lighting and spotlights within my backyard and I’m telling you guys – it really sets the mood! I’ve been dying to add some string lights to the space as well since I think it’s such a romantic look but I just haven’t gotten around to it.
Get a Grill
I will admit, I don’t use my grill all the time, but I sure do love it. Whenever I have guests over, I love to throw something on the grill and enjoy the outdoor space. It’s fun, delicious and makes cleanup a bit easier than the kitchen!
Enclose the Yard
A fence can serve multiple purposes: adding privacy, protecting kids and pets, enhancing aesthetics and defining property boundaries. Get one to complement your home to boost the decorative value, and add plants or climbing vines to make your fence a real showpiece.
