Alright guys, lets be honest — who has the time or budget to buy new clothes every month? I know I don’t so I’ve always been one to find new and exciting ways to in a way “recycle” my wardrobe. I love shopping as much as the next gal but sometimes it’s just not reasonable and there is so much more to think of. Today’s post is all about how to stay stylish on a basic (and boring) closet.
I added boring in the title because us women ALWAYS think our closets are boring when in reality they are not boring at all. There are SO many ways to change up pieces that sometimes we don’t even think about making an old piece instantly new and different for an outfit.
LET’S GET STARTED:
Cuff/Roll up your jeans. I’ve done it in today’s post. Sometimes I do a slight cuff (like the images above) and other times I’ll significantly roll my jeans up for a different look. Another option? Cut your jeans at the bottom for a frayed look that is SO in right now. Not only do both of these options change up a look but they draw the focus onto your shoe choice, which I love!
Make sure you own a classic white button-down. Honestly, a classic white shirt can instantly make any outfit look chic and they are SO affordable. This is one piece that is never going to go out of style. Ways to wear it? Go dressy with a blazer/jacket and trousers, keep it untucked for a laid back look, do a half tuck, or if it is oversized, wear it as a dress or with leggings!
The denim top. Ok, you all probably already have some kind of denim top or jacket in your closet and haven’t worn it forEVER so take it back out again and put it at the front of your closet! Seriously, denim tops/jackets are my absolute favorite! Throw it on whenever you are having some kind of wardrobe dilemma and I swear you’ll be so happy you did. Ways to wear it? News flash — head to toe denim is actually IN right now so don’t be afraid to sport it. Another way? Wear a denim top open with a tank and some cute booties or literally just wear your denim jacket over just about anything.
Wear a shirt under your boring black dress. I know you guys have probably been seeing this trend but never actually thought to do it. Well now is your chance. We all have that black dress that we used to love SO much but is now just well,… boring. Throw a shirt on underneath it I bet you’ll be loving it all over again.
Now as much as I love wearing a shirt underneath a dress, there is also the option of wearing a shirt OVER an old dress. Or maybe you have this amazing super elegant dress that you just REALLY want to wear out. Easy peasy – dress it down by adding a shirt over it and no one will even know!
Change it up. Another problem with having an item of clothing for over five years is that, during those five years, your style may have changed. For example, you may have used to be a heels gal but now you can’t part ways with your sneakers. So try on your old outfits with a different shoe and you might instantly get a new look out of it.
Most importantly never ever think you have to have the most brand new ANYTHING to be trendy and stylish. Fashion is all about YOU and doesn’t ask anyone to abide by the latest trends by any means. Plus, there is SO much you can do with an existing closet, you just have to be a little creative. In the end, it can actually be super fun making new outfits out of older items!
