One very helpful life skill is to be able to chill out more, don’t you agree?
To be calm in negative situations and not overreact about all kinds of things can go such a long way. I’ll be honest, I’m not always this way but as I get older, I’ve tried more and more to adopt this mentality.
By being able to chill out when needed to you will:
- Have a lot less stress, worry and pointless conflicts with other people.
- Waste less of your time, energy and thoughts on things that aren’t really that useful.
- Attract what you are. To be able to draw people who are more relaxed and positive about life into your life then you have to be that person yourself. People like to hang out with people who are similar to them (because it’s comfortable, because it brings more fun and success, because people have 24 hours in a day and so choices need to be made).
With all that being said here are some good habits that help me chill out instead of overreacting and becoming angry, frustrated and worried about the small, medium-sized and oftentimes big issues in life.
Patience is refined confidence
Bad things happen quickly. Good things tend to take a while. When you understand this, you feel confident when something takes time to develop. In fact, you come to completely distrust anything that comes quickly and easily.
One reason that people get angry is because things don’t happen quickly enough. Easier said than done but look at time gaps between action to be an opportunity for rest, relaxation, recharge, and planning.
Keep In Mind The 80/20 Rule
In your work life, you should be mindful of the 80/20. In many cases, 20% of the responsibilities/clients take up 80 percent of your time. As such, try and isolate such time-suckers and remove from your daily routine in the best way possible while still fulfilling your responsibilities and meeting your goals.
Take in Fresh Air
If you have time during the day, sneak a walk outside. The fresh air, natural light, and the light exercise associated with walking outside ill make you feel better. This is especially important for individuals who spend 8 or more hours sitting at their work desk.
Purge Your Social Media
Purge all the negative energy from your social media accounts. Go through all the pages and friends and accounts and unfriend/unfollow accounts associated with negative energy. Whether it that blog that is increasing posting negative content or a high school acquaintance who is always posting negative political posts. Doing this will get rid of a huge source of stress in your life.
Let Go of Control
Oftentimes, we can find ourselves overthinking things that we really have little control over. We can free up a lot of mental space and find more calm if we can learn to accept the things we cannot change and change the things that we can. Oftentimes, we cannot change or control the random events of life or the behaviors of other people. We can change the way that we react and respond to these things, so instead of focusing outwardly, focus on being the healthiest that you can.
