Now that we are officially heading into fall, it’s time to celebrate and talk about one of my favorite things — WINE! It’s no surprise to you guys that I’m a big wine lover, I mean… I did name my dog Merlot after all. I’ve had the opportunity to head to Sonoma County a couple times and in few times I’ve been there I fell absolutely in LOVE with everything about it, including it’s wine!
I’ll be honest, I used to be one of those people that would just never know what kind of wine I was buying and really not care unless it was under a certain dollar amount (I know, I’m ridiculous) but that’s how it goes when you are pinching pennies. As I got older and became more knowledgable I started to realize that you actually don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good glass (or bottle) of wine. Literally any wine I get from Sonoma County tastes beyond amazing and it makes my life way easier when it comes to picking one out. On top of it all October is actually Sonoma County Wine Month and over 200 wineries are participating throughout Sonoma County which is why I wanted to mention it to you guys! You can check out all the details here but I’ll be the first one to tell you — if you have ever been thinking about taking a trip to Sonoma County you absolutely HAVE TO and I swear you will not be disappointed in the least bit!
Basically, Sonoma County Wine Month is a showcase of the diverse, world-class wine region and wines of Sonoma County throughout the month of October and I was lucky enough to get a bunch of my favorites to enjoy here at home.
Lets dive right in..
Frei Brothers – I’ll be honest, I’m more of a red wine drinker BUT I literally couldn’t help myself go crazy for the Frei Brothers Chardonnay. I love it because its has a buttery aftertaste as well as smoothness but doesn’t not have any kind of bitterness that I sometimes tend to notice with white wines. The Frei Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon however was a total favorite!
Speaking of great Chardonnay – Laguna Chardonnay is definitely one to be mentioned. It is creamy, smooth, and lightly spiced. Similar to the Frei Brothers Chardonnay, it has a very buttery taste with a little bit of spice. This may be one of my top picks when it comes to a white wine.
Bear Flag – Based on a California Republic Proclamation from 1846, this wine offers a nod to Sonoma’s place in history. It was the location for the Bear Flag Revolt, a fight for Californian independence. This Zinfandel is Structured and full-bodied for those of you who are looking for a wine similar to that.
MacMurray Pinot Noir has got to be one of my favorites. I have always been a HUGE Pinot Noir fan, in fact it may be the one wine I stock up on the most in my home! Something about it is just perfect to me for every day. This one especially is light and refreshing with some nice fruit notes. It’s a must try!
All in all, word to the wise is well, I don’t really think you can get a bad wine from Sonoma County but the several mentioned above are among my top fall picks! If you guys are interested in heading out to Sonoma County make sure to do it this month as it is Sonoma County Wine Month and probably one of the best times to do so! Also, don’t forget there are direct flights into Santa Rosa on Alaska Airlines and bringing your favorite wines home is such a piece of cake since up to a case of wine is included as part of your free luggage allowance.
Have I convinced you yet?
Let me know your guys’ thoughts and if you have tried any of the wines I mentioned above! I’d love to hear if you love them as much as I do!!
