I have a feeling we are approaching the end of our quarantine-ing days but don’t quote me on that because I could be entirely wrong. Regardless if it’s time to get ourselves ready for real world again or just another month staying indoors, glowing skin is where it’s AT! Here are some of my best tips for glowing skin:
1. Make sure you apply SPF daily
Ok I know, I know you’ve heard it a million times but being an esthetician I HAVE to mention it that million and oneth time. Wearing SPF is the best way to prolong healthy, glowing skin!
I don’t want to scare you guys but ninety percent of wrinkles are from sun exposure and well, I hate to admit it but I live and breath for sun and warm weather. It’s so much easier to prevent the damage than it is to fix it afterwards, trust me on that.
Look for a formula that offers broad-spectrum protection to guard against UVA rays (the ones that cause premature ageing) and UVB rays (one of the main causes of skin cancer).
2. Invest in skincare with Vitamin C
Research shows that Vitamin C-rich foods not only mop up the free radicals that cause wrinkles and sagging, but can help remove the DNA damage they form.
Also try smoothing some Vitamin C on your skin as well. Doing this can significantly improve fine lines and discoloration and I totally swear by it.
One of my favorites (although a little pricey) is the SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF!
3. Hydrate skin from the inside out
If you want to know how to get clear skin, this one’s a non-negotiable – drink more water.
Water is perhaps the most important and glow-inducing ingredient for your skin. If you don’t keep your cells hydrated, they won’t be healthy, and you will have a very dull and fatigued complexion.
Drinking more water will not only help to keep your skin moisturized, but will also flush out toxins from your system so they don’t build up in your cells.
If you don’t like drinking plain water, try a fruit infusion. You can use different fruits, such as Strawberries, Lemons and Apples, which all add flavor without any nasty ingredients. Plus, the vitamins and antioxidants from these fruits are awesome for your skin too.
4. Clean your make up brushes
I feel like this is one that a lot of us forget about yet it is SO essential. Think about it guys – if you never wash your brushes/sponges they collect dirt and bacteria which then is applied onto your skin. Not the best recipe when you’re trying to get glowing skin, ya know?
You can find brush cleaners online easily but if you’d rather work with what you have, just mix a couple of drops of facial cleanser or shampoo with lukewarm water in a cup, swish your brushes around, rinse with lukewarm water, pat dry, and lay flat to air dry.
A brush cleaner I love right now however is the Sigma Sigmagic Scrub since it makes it SO easy to do.
5. Do a Facial Massage
If you suffer from the occasional breakout, dullness or skin fatigue, it could be that your circulation is poor and toxins are building up in your skin’s cells.
A facial massage helps to encourage circulation and lymphatic drainage, so that these pollutants in the skin are removed. Once they are flushed out of your skin, you will notice an improvement in its appearance, as it will look a lot healthier and more luminous.
I did a blog post a while back with some tips on massaging here – you can follow these steps with or without a jade roller. I also love massaging my skin with a hydrating face oil in the morning or at night!
6. Use a Face Mask
If you are suffering from a dulling complexion that needs an instant pick-me-up, a face mask is a quick way to solve it.
Look out for words like radiance, detox and charcoal; all of which usually correlate to masks that either infuse the skin with hydration, or decongest it to remove the dead skin that could be causing the dullness.
7. Beauty Sleep
Try to sleep at least 8 hours every night. If you don’t get enough shut eye, your skin gets tired just like you – it sags and you get bags. So don’t risk it. Do yourself a favor and just get that shut eye early and you’ll be happy you did so in the morning.
8. Highlight
When all else falls and on days when your skin is just not cooperating (we ALL get those days) then its all about the highlight game! Get a color that is more on the natural side so the secret behind your glow is safe with you.
