You guys KNOW I’m a huge fan of Clarins. I mean, it’s a French brand so naturally, how could I not, right? 😉 They just launched the SOS Primers and I’m addicted to say the least. To be honest I never really got into using a primer until about 1-2 years ago until I realized how beneficial they actually are and ever since I swear by them. Unlike other makeup bases, the Clarins SOS Primer is actually a color correcting primer and tackles so much more than an ordinary primer does.
I’m going to be honest with you guys, although I am an Esthetician, my skin has been seriously suffering lately from the dry weather we have been having here in California. I’ve been doing tons of treatments on my skin and taking great care of it however, my makeup has just been looking dull and I definitely needed some sort of “pick-me-up” if you know what I mean. I have been obsessed with these primers because they do just that! Whether you are suffering from a bout of redness or you just can’t shake the dullness like I’ve been suffering from, they have a primer for pretty much every skin concern out there! Convinced yet?
So let’s get down to the dirty..
What does the Clarins SOS Primer do?
✔ Hydrates skin for up 24 hours. That’s a LONG time people!
✔ Protects skin from environmental aggressors with the Clarins anti-pollution complex
✔ Balances uneven skin tone and texture – my personal favorite
✔ Makes your foundation last longer
For those of you interested, it’s important to note there are 6 different primers to choose from and although you can’t really go wrong with any, I’m going to talk you through which may be best for you!
SOS Primer in 00 Universal Light – If you have no major concerns apart from looking to brighten and lift your skin, this one will be your perfect primer. It has more of a shimmering effect than the others and comes out a glowy-white formula. This one will you give you a beautiful luminous look.
SOS Primer in 01 Rose – This one has pink pigments to help restore freshness to your look. This primer works wonders for those days you have fatigued skin.
SOS Primer in 02 Peach – This particular primer is amazing for helping combat scarring/pigmentation because it has a brightening apricot shade and counteracts violet tones. What I also love is it smoothes over irregular texture which helps the foundation with a more flawless finish!
SOS Primer in 03 Coral – While I love my olive skin tone, the drawback is I tend to suffer from tons of dark spots! Its the name of the game with this kind of skin tone, I swear! This coral primer is my savior since it helps balance light and dark tones in the skin. It’s kind of similar to the peach primer but a little more targeted towards blue tones in the skin.
SOS Primer in 04 Green – As an Esthetician, I cannot tell you how many clients used to suffer from rosacea or redness in the skin so I know it can cause a lot of people grief. With this primer, visible redness such as capillaries and blemishes are reduced significantly. Keep in mind, it is not something that is going to cure the rosacea but it is something that can help you day to day in making you makeup application that much easier.
SOS Primer in 05 Lavender – This one is another one of my favorites. The lavender primer is the perfect product to help brighten skin and lift away any dullness you may have. If you’re feeling out of it, vitamin deficient or just overall tired and dull, this may be the one for you!
For those of you interested in how to use, there are a few different ways you can do so:
- The first option is you can apply the SOS Primer after applying your moisturizer all over your skin. You can then leave as is, or you can apply foundation on top.
- Another option (and one of my personal favorites) is to mix the primer with your foundation and then apply onto skin.
- You can use the primer as a targeted corrector, rather than use all over the face. So, if there are only a few areas you would like to touch on, just apply the primer there, apply foundation over and blend with fingertips. That’s it!
- Last but not least, you can even use several different SOS Primers all at once for different parts of your face. For example, if you have dark spots on your forehead, you can use 03 Coral there, and if you have a lot of redness on your nose, use 04 Green there. The possibilities are endless!

Whenever dry weather arrives, you have to pick up your primer or moisturizer. It could be trouble if you wouldn’t. Clarins SOS primer seems to solve the proble.
